The Dragonblood Clan (龍血の一族, Ryū chi no ichizoku, Dragonblood Clan) are the descendants of those who saved the Astral Dragon Atruum during the Age of Creation in Dragon Marked For Death. The Dragonblood Village is the primary Dragonblood settlement, located west of the Central Kingdom of Medius on the continent of Remlia. It is the home of the protagonists and was destroyed at the start of the game.

Overview (Artbook)[2]

The Dragonblood Clan's hometown is located west of the capital of the Central Kingdom of Medius.

It is located in a land beyond the reach of purification, above the mountains.

The Dragonblood Clan members are self-sufficient hunters and farmers. Basically, the "home of the Dragonblood Clan" is only the hometown of the protagonists, but there are a few people who have left the hometown to hide their Dragon Scars over the long history of the Clan, and they may have established other hometowns or live in Medius City, hiding their identities.

Surrounded by forests and waterfalls, there are few visitors from the outside. Since there are no facilities to process stone, the buildings are mainly made of wood or mud walls with wood or animal bones as the core. At the back of the town is a monument dedicated to the Astral Dragon Atruum, and behind it is the entrance to the Den.

It is also believed that there is an altar at the end of the cave that holds the heart of Atruum.

It is forbidden to enter into the depths of the ancient dragon's cave, according to the rules of the Clan.

Normally, the Clan stands in front of this monument, where the ritual of sacrificial offerings is performed.

History

Age of the Divine Family (Year 0 - 600)[3]

In the days of the rise of the nations, the Dragonblood Clan was like a surrogate enemy to be defeated in place of the ancient dragons, for those who respected the teachings of the Celestial Primatis.

In the past, Dragonblood Clan members were slaughtered as scapegoats to unite the nations of Remlia.

Among the Dragonblood Clan, one in particular (who is left vague in the Artbook) was strongly influenced by the Astral Dragon and, like the protagonists in the game, possessed the power of the dragon itself, but was overtaken by the Divine Knights of Medius, who wield the power of the Celestial.

The person was overthrown, and thus the numbers of the Dragonblood Clan dwindled.

Eventually, the Dragonblood Clan began to hide out in a hidden village, forbidding the use of "dragon power" as a cause of awe. As the reign of the Divine Family went on track, direct persecution and massacres of the Dragonblood Clan ceased, but they came to be treated as "swollen historical objects" that should not even be mentioned.

Modern Times (Year 920 - Game Start)[3]

In modern times, the Dragonblood Clan's contact with the outside world is limited to a few tribes and groups that understand them (ninja town in the east, hidden village of wizards in the south, etc.). Because of this, inbreeding is common, but the number is decreasing year by year.

The general public is aware of the Dragonblood Clan’s existence, and many are in contact with the Clan. However, they either "ignore" or "keep their distance" with the Clan.

In the slums, Dragonblood Clan members are welcomed as low-level laborers, but there are quite a few people who are not comfortable with this.

Game Start[4]

Originally, the protagonists had only dragon marks on the respective parts of their bodies, but they do not have the same appearance as they do in the game.

After someone burned their hometown to the ground, the protagonists vow revenge against the culprit and, guided by Atruum's voice, make a pact with Him in the cave of the ancient dragon.

In order to revive the Clan and take revenge on the culprit, the protagonists make a contract with Atruum, and the parts of their bodies with the Dragon Scar will not only possess the dragon's power, but the dragon itself.

Game Life[3]

The protagonists, who have lost their hometown, flee to the slums on the outskirts of the Medius capital. There, even the lowest-ranking members of society are hired by the people and aristocrats of the city as a labor force, and they receive compensation and a right to housing according to their work. Those who long for a wealthy life in the city dislike living in the slums.

People who are friendly to the Dragonblood protagonists are also people who are despised in the city. People with various values, such as those who show understanding towards the Dragonblood Clan, gather in the slums. The higher the person’s social status, the more they respect the teachings of the Celestial, and the more they discriminate against the Dragonblood Clan.

The protagonists receive quests from various people and live by doing them. Since the protagonists have more power than ordinary people, they always apply for dangerous quests. As the protagonists do them, the status of the slums rises and gradually becomes crowded.

Architecture and Culture

The architecture of Dragonblood Village consists of angular, rectangular structures. The colors of statues range from blue to black to yellow to green, but the primary color is red. Most structures are built on tall landmasses, which are connected by large wooden bridges.

The ancestors of the Clan were saved by the Astral Dragon, Atruum. Dragonbloods closely resemble humans, but every member bears a mark on their body called the Dragon Scar. This Dragon Scar can manifest on the body as draconic features, such as fangs, a tail, or scaled skin. There are only few members, but they are infamous and carry the reputation as heretics who worship the Astral Dragon, often being treated as worse than slaves. The Astral Dragon's blood provides great strength and magical power beyond those of normal humans, which is another reason why other people fear them.[5]

The Dragonblood Oracle is the Clan's main proxy of communication with the Astral Dragon, as they are the only one capable of communicating with Atruum. The Oracle practices divination and is born only once in one hundred years. During the events of the game, the Oracle is Amica.[6]

The father of the Empress is the chief of the Dragonblood Clan.[7]

Geography and Locations

Dragonblood Village is located within a large lake, thus it is surrounded by towering waterfalls. It is separated from the Central Kingdom of Medius by a mountain range.[1] Houses and buildings are built on tall landmasses and are connected by bridges. The village also contains plenty of lush vegetation, but has been worsening due to poor soil.

Atruum's Den

In front of Atruum's Den is a monument commemorated to the Astral Dragon. Inside of the Den is the Astral Dragon's heart stored away within an altar. Entrance is forbidden.[1]
